Don't know the full extent of it yet, but I am sure I hurt something.
Just got the car back on Thursday from having new pads installed, and an attempt to slow or fix my oil blow by issue.
Well, not if this new fix is the culpret or not but on sat afernoon I siphoned 3.5 quarts of oil out of the Focus duing a fourth gear pull to about 7K...again, as before, the oil totally drenched the left front wheel well, but it must have something else too because it pulled 3.5 quarts out of the car.
Car idles like poo, puffs smoke out the tail pipe, and has NO power...
ummmm
351 Focus project?

That sucks. Sounds like the Cobra may have to make a track appearance!
ReplyDeleteKen, can you just disconnect the S/C drive belt, top off the oil, and see how the car runs?
ReplyDeleteHope its not serious.
That sucks Ken. You need to turn the boost down on that little beast. 14lbs is a lot for the compression of your Focus. Heck, I am pushing 17lbs with the Cobra and that is about the peak of the eaton S/C. I am leary about going any higher and my motor was made for boost. I bet if you drop your boost to 8lbs your car would lose a lot of the issues your now having.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you got your brakes taken care of. After my next event, in a week and a half, we'll have to set some time aside to run through a brake swap so you can get comfortable doing it yourself. I have never done a Focus, but I am in the middle of installing my 2nd aftermarket brake kit on the Cobra. I am sure I can handle the stock brakes on any car.
Well, I heard from Torey today from Excessive, and there is a HOLE in the PISTON..
ReplyDeletethis is not good right?
looking for the best place to get a rebuild at this time.
Ken
A little JB Weld and she'll be as good as new Ken.
ReplyDeleteNot good Ken.
I say you sell the blower and use the funds to build a pumped up naturally aspirated motor. Leave the blowers and turbos for the drag racers. Yes, I know I have a blower, and so does several of the other guys, but the Cobra motor was built for it. I bet you would still have a blast with 200rwhp that was reliable. JMO. Either way good luck with the project. I'll keep my eye out for anything that may be of benefit to your issue.
That's a bummer Ken? Any ideas on what the root cause was? Oil starvation or maybe lean condition?
ReplyDeleteWell, don't think I was lean as I had a safe tune...
ReplyDeleteNot sure what it turned out to be, maybe never know.
In the process of trying to get it rebuilt to the tune of about 6K when all said and done :(
