How ready for VIR are you?

We're leaving in a week for the first big track event of the year. There's going to be 7 or 8 of us going together, or at least pitting together when down there. How close are you to being ready?

I have changed my oil and filter, flushed out my old brake fluid and replaced it with new, installed my Odyssey battery, and gotten my number plates ready. I also got a microphone to go with my new video camera so that might help with wind noise in the vert.

Here's my list of what I still need to do:

Change wheels to rain tires/wheels
Switch to high density roll bar padding
Charge chatterbox
empty trunk and remove floor mats
Pack clothes ( why do I always write that down, you'd think I'd notice I don't have luggage)
Pack numbers, maps, tech sheet, helmet, collar, etc
Charge camera
Mount microphone

I plan to do most of this stuff this weekend. The trailer is packed and just needs to be hooked up on Thursday when I leave, though I might leave my air tank at home to give me more room to take the pop-up, and just bum air off of others.

  1. I'm pretty much done with preparations for next weekend as well. I have plenty of ice cold beer & snacks, I've paid my cable bill and I plan to spend the weekend slowly becoming one with the couch (in true potato fashion) while watching the NCAA Tournament.

Sounds like you might be preparing for something a little different ;-)

  3. Greg, there will be plenty of air available...save the space.

I need to get the Lil Foci well soon and I will feel better.

  5. I have my alignment next Wednesday so that is going to be my busy day changing over the brakes and fluid. Shouldn't take that long hopefully, got the slicks mounted yesterday.

  7. I have a list of stuff to do tomorrow.

Install rear rotors and DTC60 pads.
    Install front DTC70 pads.
    Set front camber to -2.
    Install rear seat delete.
Fill gas tank with 93.(I have .70 off at Safeway)

I still will have to wash the car.
Pull the trailer up from the back yard.
    Wash the truck.
    Get all my supplies together.

Whew. I have a lot to do.

  8. Well, I just finished all I need to do except for last minute packing. I took the car out for a spin to check fluids, changed to high-density roll bar padding, emptied the car of loose stuff, mounted my rain tires/wheels for the trip down, packed the trailer with the slicks, have all my pads, rotors and brake tools, tightened my seats (before every event), and mounted my remote microphone. One problem with that is the plug-in is under the flip-out screen, so I can't keep it folded back flat. That'll probably slow me down 5 MPH.

Currently charging my impact wrench, chatterbox, and video camera. Have my shoes, helmet, collar, tech sheet and numbers ready to go.

Doug, I wouldn't bother with a wash, it may rain on the way down.

  9. Here's my test with the remote microphone mounted. It seems to have eliminated the wind noise I was getting with the mike on the camera, but I'm getting a bit of buzzing, probably from the way I mounted the mike on the roll bar. I put some foam between them, but it wasn't very thick. It seems OK on acceleration, so I'm not gonna change it, but if I have time, I might play with other mounts down at VIR.

I guess you need to copy this into your browser. Anyone know how to post a hyperlink?

  10. Not sure yet Greg on how a lot of these things work. I agree we could use some creature comforts in the blog.

  11. You mean like a back massage by someone in a sarong and some Mai Tai's?

  12. Yes, let me work on that!

Thursday is my big day to load and pack. Being this will be the first time putting the Foci on a trailer, need to ensure I do it right.

You guys have a safe trip down to VIR, and we will see you Friday afternoon.
